I usually complete five or six cycle events a year to raise money for RRUK through my Just Giving page. The highlight of the season is a one hundred mile cycle ride that follows the route taken by the professional road cyclists in the London Olympics. Other events include local sportives in the New Forest and a couple of larger events further afield.
This year, I managed to get the first ride done, back in early March, before the Virus Lockdowns cancelled everything. In April, I completed a virtual ride of 100 miles over several days to comply with government exercise guidelines. I finished the 100 miles by the 11th April so increased my challenge to ride 250 miles in April. I completed that on the 29th!
For May’s challenge, I decided to do a triathlon: rowing 10kms (indoors), ride 50.3kms, then run 10kms making a total of 70.3kms and completed the challenge in five hours forty minutes in total – which I was happy with!
So far, in June, I have been making cloth masks on my sewing machine for donations to my JustGiving page. As of beginning of July I have made over 400 masks for friends, family and RRUK to sell.
I have also sold cakes and bead bracelets to raise those much needed funds over the years.
